Knowing how an intern is doing shouldn't require a phone call, an email and a three-day wait. With Prakto's new check-in feature, students can report their day with a few taps – and school and supervisor see the status instantly.
The check-in feature is a daily follow-up function in Prakto that lets the student answer short questions about their internship day: what they did, how it went and whether there's anything to flag. The responses are visible to teachers and supervisors in real time.
The problem we're solving#
Traditional follow-up of interns often looks like this:
- the teacher calls or sends email – maybe every third week
- the supervisor writes an assessment at the end of the period
- the student submits a journal that nobody reads until the internship is over
This means problems are discovered late, positive development isn't visible and nobody has a clear picture of how things are actually going – until it's over.
How the check-in feature works#
Student view#
Every work day, the student gets a short prompt in the Prakto app:
- What did you work on today? (free text, 1–3 sentences)
- How was the day? (scale 1–5 with emoji)
- Anything to flag? (optional, e.g. "supervisor was sick" or "got new tasks")
It takes under 60 seconds. The student does it at the end of the workday, directly on their phone.
Teacher view#
The teacher sees an overview of all their interns:
- green/yellow/red status indicator based on the student's responses
- latest check-in with text and rating
- history: trends in well-being and activity
- flagged responses that need attention
The teacher doesn't need to call every student every week. The check-in tells them who needs contact.
Supervisor view#
The supervisor sees the student's check-ins and can:
- confirm the student's description
- add a brief comment
- flag if there's a workplace perspective to share
Why daily follow-up makes a difference#
Early signals#
A student who three days in a row answers 2/5 on "how was the day?" is sending a signal. Without check-in, that signal would have disappeared in silence.
Documentation without effort#
At the end of the internship, the student and school have a complete log – automatically. It facilitates evaluation, assessment and any complaints.
Better communication#
The check-in creates a natural touchpoint. Instead of waiting for problems to arise, the teacher has ongoing visibility.
Accountability and engagement#
Students who know someone sees their day tend to reflect more and engage deeper. It's not surveillance – it's visibility.
Privacy and data#
We take the student's privacy seriously:
- the student decides what they write in the free text
- flagged responses are only visible to the teacher and supervisor
- data is stored securely and never shared with third parties
- the student can always see their own check-ins
How to get started#
- The school activates the check-in feature in their Prakto account
- Students are connected to their internship placements in the system
- Check-ins start automatically on the first internship day
- The teacher gets an overview and can follow up directly
No extra installation needed. The feature is available in the Prakto app for students, teachers and supervisors.
Frequently asked questions about the check-in feature#
Is it mandatory for the student to check in?#
The school decides. Most schools make it mandatory as part of the internship documentation.
What happens if the student doesn't check in?#
The teacher sees a missing response in their overview. That can be a signal in itself – or just a forgotten day. Automatic reminders can be activated.
Can the supervisor see the student's responses?#
Yes, the supervisor sees the student's check-in and can comment. The student knows the supervisor has access.
Does it work on all devices?#
Yes. Prakto works in browsers and as an app on iOS and Android.
Does the feature cost extra?#
The check-in feature is included in Prakto's standard plans for schools.
Conclusion#
Following up on internships doesn't need to be complicated – but it needs to exist. The check-in feature gives schools and supervisors the visibility that was missing, without burdening the student with unnecessary administration. A few taps per day. That's all it takes.
